The ancient grape cabernet franc originally comes from the Loire and is the father of cabernet sauvignon. Trapiche planted it in Argentina's Valle de Uco, a sub-area of Mendoza. The Gran Medalla undergoes spontaneous fermentation and matures in cement egg-shaped barrels. It then matures for 18 months in new French oak. You taste blackberries, red berries and cherries with vanilla, cigar boxes, undergrowth and pencil shavings. Rustic and classic with a modern twist. Delicious with stew, game or grilled entrecote.
